A cyberattack has shut down refrigerators at hundreds of French supermarkets. Overnight from Sunday into Monday, attackers hijacked Danfoss refrigeration controllers and triggered forced defrost cycles, pushing temperatures to 50°C and spoiling fresh and frozen food across the country.

The damage is widespread: more than 150 Intermarché stores, around 100 Coopérative U outlets, and 80 Carrefour stores were affected. The Paris prosecutor is investigating, and France's ANSSI cybersecurity agency has been mobilized.

The attack is a stark reminder that critical infrastructure isn't just power grids and hospitals — the cold chain that keeps food safe is just as exposed, and just as consequential when it fails.
